Rational

We are open to students wanting to complete high school in an individualized setting. Classroom discussions, worksheets, software, and videos complement the various units. Self motivation, maturity, and perseverance are essential for successful completion of programming.

We attempt to incorporate cultural activities into our program. We have regular Elder talks, sweats, and ceremonies. It is expected that students participate in these activities.

We believe in a holistic educational model. We provide a variety of activities that build our students emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally.

Adult 12

We offer an Adult 12 program that is open to students 19 years of age or older, who have been out of the regular school system for one full year. An Adult 12 consists of a minimum of seven credits (courses).

Each credit will take a minimum of 100 hours. Required courses include: English A30; English B30; Biology 30, Physics 30 or Chemistry 30; Math 30 (A,B, or C); and Native Studies 30. Electives include Information Processing 30, Psychology 30, Law 30, and School to Work 30L. An additional math and/or science can also be taken as electives.

School to Work 30L

School to Work 30L is a locally developed course that we are able to offer our students. School to Work 30L, as the name implies, combines academic studies with real work experiences. Students will be able to gain between 50 and 100 hours of work experiences.

Funding

Student funding may be provided through the Provincial Training Allowance (PTA) and/or SITAG. PTA is administered through Canada/Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services.

As with most situations, a prerequisite for continued acceptance and funding is satisfactory attendance. You are expected to be here at least 90% of the time.

Students that have their own funding source (usually your First Nation or Tribal Council) or who do not require funding can also be accommodated.

Selection and Waiting List

We currently maintain a waiting list. Application forms are available daily from 9:30 to 4:30. Prospective students will be tested using a Canadian Test of Basic Skills. CTBS test results must be at or above the grade 10 level for acceptance.

There are several programs in the city that offer basic literacy and general upgrading to people who feel they need remedial work. SIAST, Regina Public Library, The Food Bank, and SIIT are some programs you may wish to investigate. Students who successfully complete these programs will be given priority for acceptance.

Prospective students must hand in a completed application form, resume, and three letters of reference.
